Innovative scavenger hunt
Objective: To play with the concept of innovation through an unparalleled scavenger hunt! |
Duration : 15 to 45 minutes
Material :
- Your eyes
- Your home
Instructions :
Could there be treasures that have been in your house for years and that you haven't noticed? But not just any treasures... objects that represent innovation through their originality, usefulness, effectiveness?
...
-
Find your treasures. Search for these six innovative treasures by exploring the different areas of your home:
-
Something that often goes unnoticed but is important…
-
Something that smiles but is not alive…
-
Something that is really very technological…
-
Something that is both creative and clunky…
-
Something that stimulates all five senses…
-
Something that is strangely reassuring…
-
-
Play with your treasures. Invite a member of your family to play the following games with you:
-
Game 1 - I Spy With My Little Eye: Before the person joins you, put the treasures in different places in the room (they must be visible). Then let the person come in and say: "I spy with my little eye... something creative and clunky". The person must then find the corresponding treasure in the room. Then do the same with the other five treasures.
-
Game 2 - Associations: An easier version of Game 1 to do with another person in your family... or with friends online! Show the six treasures and the six descriptions to the person, who must match them as quickly as possible. If they are convinced of a different association than yours, ask them for their reasons to see if they can persuade you with their thoughts, and discuss them together!
-
Game 3 - Object Theatre: Each choose one of the treasures and imagine that they are characters. Observe the sounds and movements they can make, think about their personalities, and visualize their faces or bodies. Then, invent a scenario together in which these treasures interact, then act it out!

Think about your treasures. After finding and playing with your treasures, take a moment to think: what makes an object innovative? Should it be interesting or important? Does it have to be something unique or can it be an everyday object? Should it be useful? Does it have to be beautiful? It's up to you to decide ! As long as you have good reasons, of course...
...
Bonus : With the person playing with you, compose a symphony of innovative sounds! To do so, each one of you should make a unique sound (or several!). You can use you vocal cords, your body or the objects around you. Then arrange the sounds in different ways to make a distinctive rhythm! Do you find it difficult not to copy songs you already know? Is innovating easy or difficult? |
Tricks for tots : Innova- what?! The curious alien who visited you during the Ideation Stretching activity wants to play with you... But he has no idea what innovation is! How can you help him understand what the concept means? Can you give him examples of innovation on planet Earth? Why are these things you are giving as examples are innovative? Can you identify the criteria, the characteristics, that allow you to say that something is innovative? |
Tips for teens : Now that you have had this experience, you can try to give a definition of innovation. Are the six objects you found innovative, according to your definition? Is it possible that they were innovative at some point in history, but are not anymore? If yes, according to what criteria? If you still have energy after all this, you can design an object that perfectly embodies your definition of innovation! What criteria must be met to ensure that your object is truly innovative? |
