PhiloQuests: the day of boredom

12. Nighttime Notebook

The boredom trails

ObjectiveTo reflect on your incredible Philoquester experience to identify its key moments!

Duration: 10 to 20 minutes

Material:

  • A sheet of paper
  • Pencils, eraser

Instructions:

  1. Think back to the moments of your day. Think about the different thinking and creative activities you completed today.
  2. Answer the following reflection questions:

    • How did you experience boredom today?
    • What was your highlight today?
    • What challenge did you face today?
    • What lesson did you learn today?
    • What is your gratitude today?

...

Bonus: Before you go to bed, go around the house to retrace your "boredom trails." To do this, ask yourself: Where are you usually when you feel bored? Do you feel bored differently in different rooms? Where does boredom lead you to go? To the fridge? The television? Do you move around differently when you are bored? If you want to, you can draw a map of your home on a piece of paper and trace these trails of boredom. What new paths of boredom could you draw tomorrow?

Where might boredom push you to go?

Tricks for tots: Instead of having to remember all your boredom trails, choose a room in your house, like your bedroom, and imagine a time when you were in that room feeling bored. Now imagine another time when you were in that room and you felt excited. Was the room different between those two moments? What was different exactly? Did you prefer one of those two moments? Why?
Tips for teens: How has your understanding of boredom evolved over the course of this fantastical philosophical quest? Can you identify the specific experiences that have changed your view of boredom? Could feeling bored help you understand boredom better? You can use your answers to the questions above to reflect on your experience.

Share your creative reflections by sending them via email.
Include photos of your projects and notes of your thoughts, as well as your first name and your age!
